The Admissions and Fee Regulatory Committee has told the managements of professional colleges to submit their fee proposals online for B.Tech, B.Pharmacy, MBA, and MCA courses etc. from February 1, for three years, from 2013-14 to 2015-15.

The online submission system, introduced by AFRC for the first time, has been facing stiff resistance from the colleges who allege a “conspiracy” on the part of the government to impose significant fee cuts with the intention of reducing its own financial burden on account of the fee reimbursement scheme. They allege an unreasonable fee structure will cause standards in engineering colleges totouch rock bottom.

“The entire fee fixing system is defective and unscientific.

The financial details being sought from the managements to fix fees are faulty. They take into account only sanctioned intake, while it should be admitted intake, considering that large number of seats in colleges remain vacant due to poor demand,” said Ramesh Nimmatoori, the chairman of the Consortium of Engineering and Professional Colleges’ Managements Association of AP.

He adds, “The system ignores the expenditure to be incurred by institutions on account of increased operational costs due to expansion and growth of the institute, increase in salaries etc. in the next three years.” “If the government wants to reduce its fee reimbursement burden, it should explore other options but should not put the very survival of colleges at stake by lowering fees through unjustifiable means,” Ramesh said.
