Halloween Weekend

by Andrew Young

Friday crew began the Halloween weekend by decorating the station and apparatus with spooky pumpkin carvings. The R2 jack-o-latern was securely mounted on the bumper of the heavy rescue and the crews kept busy throughout the night. The squad ran several collisions during the course of the night and ran a cutting with the medic unit at the Amherst 7-11. The crews spent Saturday detailing the station and washed the bay doors in preparation for the evening’s trick-or-treaters.

On Sunday morning around 0800 hours, the rescue squad and ambulance were alerted to a personal injury collision at the intersection of Georgia Ave. and Hathaway Dr. While the Rescue 2 units responded up Georgia Ave., Company 18 went on scene and reported two vehicles, several injured and one trapped. The squad crew arrived, stabilized both vehicles with the help of the engine company and extricated the trapped driver. A second Wheaton ambulance was requested for transport. The extrication was completed and the trapped patient freed within 10 minutes of the crew arriving on scene.
