House fire in non-hydranted area

by Jacob DeGlopper

On Friday night, April 10, 2004, Rescue Squad 28 with units from Hillendale, Walter Reed, and other local departments for the house fire on Springbrook Dr in Hillendale.

Since there are no hydrants in this neighborhood, tankers from Laytonsville, Sandy Spring, and Rockville were dispatched to assist. First-arriving units found fire from the roof of a wood-siding house deep in the woods. The initial attack line had to be backed out of the house briefly until a water supply could be established from Tanker 4 in the driveway.

The crew from Rescue Squad 28 performed a search of the house, shut off the utilities, and assisted with overhaul.
